TPA Package Expected Late April Said to

Include GSP and AGOA Renewals

Dear Valued Customer,

According to lobbyists and trade experts, the Senate Finance Committee is likely to markup Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) renewal bills in addition to a Haiti preferences package and Customs Reauthorization legislation alongside Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) in mid-to-late April, possibly before Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrives in Washington on April 28.

It is possible that the markup will only take place if Chairman Orrin Hatch, R-Utah., and ranking member Ron Wyden, D-Ore., strike a TPA deal in the coming days. Right now there is no agreement on TPA and staff continue to negotiate. The two sides continue to make progress but Hatch has been quoted as saying only that he "hopes to move legislation this Spring."

The Miscellaneous Tariff Bill (MTB) renewal appears to be shelved for the time being.

We will monitor the progress of these trade bills and will inform our customers of any significant developments.
