Trade Bills Approved by Senate Finance Committee

Dear Valued Customer,

The Senate Finance Committee just completed its 'mark-up' of trade bills where it approved legislation to give the President Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) by a vote of 20-6.

The Committee unanimously approved a trade bill, including:

  • Retroactive Renewal of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) program, through December 2017.
  • Ten-year renewal of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), which is currently scheduled to expire on September 30, 2015, through September 2025.
  • Renewal of a series of Haitian trade preferences, which expire at several points during the next five years, through September 2025.
  • Elimination of tariffs on certain outerwear (similar to the U.S. Outdoor Act).

The Committee also approved a Customs Reauthorization Bill, which included a provision to reform the process for creating the Miscellaneous Tariff Bills (MTB) and a bill to renew Trade Adjustment Assistance.

The House Ways and Means Committee will take up a version of these four bills tomorrow.
